February Backpacking

We headed out on Friday afternoon and camped on the Taylor River. Enjoyed a nice fire while the temperatures dipped into the 20's.

The next morning we hiked with full packs up the Middle Fork river. The hiking is fairly easy. Nice trail, with very little elevation gain for 6 miles between the Middle Fork trailhead and Dingford creek.

The scenery along the trail is stunning. Garfield Mountain on the left and preacher mountain on the right. After winding our way along the river for about 5 miles, we found ourselves in the middle of some old growth trees. There are trees and there are TREES. Huge, with wonderfully gnarled roots, these things were 10 to 12 feet in diameter.

We set up camp just below the Dingford creek trail head, which at that time was inaccessible by car. We didn't see another soul from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday. A quiet camp on the banks of the middle fork. A very pleasant way to spend a weekend.
