This was the second annual “Oscars in the Islands”
weekend. Mom was getting back from Sun
Valley and Jodi and I went up to open up the house. The weekend had several goals ranging from installing a wireless
printer to getting a few good walks in and having a good time watching the
Oscars.
The ferry ride up was a bit nostalgic. The winter runs are a little reminiscent of
the summer runs of old. During the
summer nowadays there are usually two strings of ferry runs, one servicing
Orcas, the other serving Friday Harbor. One or the other, you don’t see both on the same run. Back then, the ferries were smaller and
regularly squeezed through Wasp passage between Orcas and Friday Harbor going
by that lovely cabin on neck point, Shaw Island.
We didn’t do the milk run,
but we stopped at Orcas and
followed the old route to Friday Harbor via wasp passage.
A bonus was the rain cloud that set up a nice rainbow.
Once we got to the island we turned on the water, warmed up
the house then went over to Roche for a casual dinner. Roche was lit and quaint as always at night.
Mom arrived the following day and we stole Kuper for a
hike. Our original destination was
South Beach, but the cold wind caused us to rethink our plans. We decided for a quick trip up ‘mount’ Young.
The Oscars were good and as always we vowed to see more
nominees next year.
Couldn't resist a couple of dog portraits...
The trip home was a bit bumpy. Here's the "Henry Island" battling the waves.
Brought back Dad's watercolor of the Cabin on Neck Point...
