WEEKEND UPDATE

We had planned to sail over to Bainbridge, but the wind was gusting to 25 knots and there was a bit of a lump in the sound, so we stayed put.  Ironic that with an ocean capable sailboat that kept us in, but it did.  So we opted for a good walk instead.

Jodi and Rex headed south on the 3 mile loop and I headed north to work out on the stairs.  Up and down, up and down, up and down.  6 or 7 times on the ‘stairways of doom’ or ‘stairways to heaven’ depending on your point of view.

After we reconnected, we headed over to Picolino's for coffee, and bought some fresh bread.

We headed back to Shilshole to see the AMERICAN SPIRIT depart.
It’s a mini cruise ship that heads to Alaska for the summer season, but takes a 7 day tour of Puget Sound and the San Juans on the shoulder season.  We looked at the itinerary and the cost.  The ports of call:  Seattle, Anacortes, Friday Harbor, Port Townsend, and Poulsbo.  The cost?  Around $4,000.  Per person, double occupancy.  Holy Moly.

Jodi had talked to the purser who said the ship was leaving at 1:30, so we headed over shortly after 1.  The ship left about 25 minutes early so we missed seeing the departure close up.  We had walked over there Friday night to see the boat and saw some two young gals who were crew members strolling back to the ship.  I asked “how long is the boat?” and got “7 days” as the reply.  Then when the other one started giggling, they said they didn’t know how long the boat was.  My hunch was around 250’ long.  Small by cruise ship standards, but dwarfs everything else at the marina.

Back to the boat for some down time and a few chores, then off for a kayak trip around the marina.  Windy, coming back was difficult, but a good upper body workout.

Dinner followed.  Jodi made curry shrimp in coconut milk.  Yum!
Here are some holdover shots from last weekend and a few shots from around the Marina…
