GRAVEL and GUESTS at the CABIN

Friday afternoon we headed up to the island.  Devin picked me up in Bellevue, Jodi was working in Woodinville, so we all migrated north on I5 through heavy traffic.

This time we arrived in time to catch the ferry.  Winter is just about here so ferry traffic is down.  There won’t be many more trips before the new reservation system is implemented by the Washington State Ferry system.  That will be an interesting change.

On the ferry ride over we texted Jill and Andy to check in how they were doing and we learned that Andy was racing in the ‘round the county race’ for the weekend and Jill and Porter were  alone on Henry Island.  We decided to launch a rescue mission for the following day.

Great form!!  Got a lot done!!

The first order of business Saturday was gravel.  The bobcat was being delivered at 9 and we had 4 hours to spread 6 yards.  With  Devin acting as heavy equipment operator, Jodi and I raked.  Between the 3 of us we finished well before the time limit and had time for a 30 minute break.

After raking for a few hours Jodi and I were a little sore, Devin mentioned that his thumb was sore --from working the hydraulic mechanism on the bobcat.

Love a project with a view!!

Yes it is

Next was the rescue mission.  Jill and Porter were stranded on a remote island.  Ok, the remote part is overstated, but they were on a small island with no ferry service.  The problem was ‘how do we get to Henry Island’?  Our aluminum boat would need a trailer to get to the ramp.  We didn’t have access to a boat and the tandem kayak would be a long paddle.

Devin came to the rescue by borrowing a ‘craft’.  It wasn’t so much a boat as a length of dock powered by a 9 horse outboard. We crossed the bay at a blistering speed of (not quite) 7 knots.    It all worked fine and made the trip there and back without incident.  Jill and Porter had been rescued from Henry Island.

The rest of the weekend was a mixture of cooking, entertaining, and relaxing with the relaxing bit coming in a distant third.  Jodi cooked up a couple of soups and froze portions for ad hoc winter meals for mom.
Guess who's coming to dinner?

A little sad at the momentary  demotion to the #2 slot

Andy stopped by after the first leg of the ‘around the county race’ with the tale of after racing all day in light air, they failed to finish by 18 seconds.

A good, productive and fun weekend. Need to do several more of these over the winter!!
